The Land Cruiser excels in towing and off-roading capabilities, while also serving as a reliable vehicle for suburban family use. The powertrain demonstrates its strength with the engine delivering 90 percent of its peak torque below 2,200 rpm. Additionally, a specialized water-cooled oil cooler is integrated to handle heavy towing tasks. With the appropriate equipment, the Land Cruiser can tow up to 8,500 pounds. Moreover, the engine is designed to perform optimally on regular gasoline, and the fifth and sixth transmission ratios are fine-tuned for improved highway fuel efficiency.
The Land Cruiser is equipped with a dual-range transfer case that includes a Torsen limited-slip locking center differential. This allows the vehicle to distribute 60 percent of engine power to the rear wheels during normal driving conditions and provides additional power to the wheels that require it most. Additional features like Crawl Control, Off-Road Turn Assist, and Downhill Assist Control (DAC) contribute to maintaining stability and control on challenging off-road terrains. The variable-ratio power steering enhances maneuverability off-road, and the Multi-terrain Select system enables the driver to adjust wheel slip according to the specific terrain, such as pavement, snow, sand, or mud.
Surprisingly, considering its off-road prowess, the Land Cruiser exhibits nimble performance on regular roads. While its size can present challenges when parking, it compensates with ease of handling on highways, offering good high-speed passing ability and stability.
The Land Cruiser’s interior provides exceptional comfort. The front two bucket seats offer generous space, while the second-row 3-across seat comfortably accommodates adults. The third row provides room for up to three passengers, although access is slightly restricted. The second-row seats can be adjusted fore and aft to optimize space as needed.
The Land Cruiser comes well-equipped with keyless entry, push-button start, a power moonroof, cruise control, a universal garage-door opener, steering-wheel audio controls, power front seats, a navigation system, a DVD rear entertainment system, a cooled storage box, and heated front and rear seats. It also features a standard JBL premium sound system with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, audio streaming, HD Radio, Sirius satellite radio, USB/iPod connectivity, and 13 speakers with a subwoofer.
